Beschreibung
For many generations winegrowers have known about their best vineyards. Based on this knowledge, committed winegrowers in the Rheingau have campaigned for a classification of the vineyards. Alongside this knowledge are the rigorous pursuit of quality throughout the vegtatioin to the selective hand-picking of the fully ripened grapes are of decisive importance. The development of Hallgarten and its viticulture is undoutedly linked to the neighbourhood of the Cistercian monastery of Eberbach. One of their most important vineyards in the middle ages was nearby Hallgarten, they named it „Jungfer“, a clear signal for the veneration of highly esteemed vineyard site was only a few hectares in size. Sloping towards the south to the southeast, these vineyards enjoy the warmth of the morning and midday sun. The grapes for this wine come from older parcels with reduced yields and were harvested from the end of September to mid of October. They were golden yellow and ripe, some also overripe and very aromatic. After harvesting, some of the grapes were left to macerate on the skins or pressed immediately. The slow fermentation of the must and the maturing on the yeast took place in stainless steel and the classic wooden barrel. After bottling in April, the wine matured in the bottle until the first sale in September.
James Suckling rating 96 points: „For the challenging 2021 vintage, this is an enormously structured and compact wine, even though the body is sleeker than most wines of this category from the preceding vintages. A wealth of wild-berry and herb character. Very racy finish with a slew of wetearth minerality and stacks of fine tannin. Drink or hold.“
